ABOUT THE WORK
Having typed ‘How to make a home’ into Google, Jan McCullough was directed to an online chat forum in which self-described experts were exchanging detailed instructions. She rented an ordinary suburban house and over a period of two months carried out these strangers’ advice exactly. In complying with the instructions for making the perfect home, she contemplated the construction of an identity from scratch. The resulting photographic series, Home Instruction Manual, that this artwork, titled Plant, is part of, document the end result of her time living and working in the house while trying on different lives for size.

This work consists of a professionally framed photograph printed on aluminium composite sheet (Dibond) which is specially optimised for display.
