HAND - KANICH KHAJOHNSRI
TITLE
Hand
ARTIST
Kanich Khajohnsri
ABOUT THE WORK
This editioned work stems from Kanich’s recent commission POSSESSION, presented during Household’s Red Sky At Night festival at the Palm House, Botanic Gardens. The installation combined sound, photography, and sculpture to explore burial rituals and spiritual customs in Thailand and Northern Ireland, examining how these practices connect us to the land. Central to the work is the Thai concept of Kwan—a spirit believed to inhabit bodies, places, and land, often visualised as a spiral. The hand becomes a symbol of both possession and presence: a mark of identity and ownership, and a vessel for ancestral, mystical forces within the material world.
