ABOUT THE WORK
This work is a 16mm film still print developed by Emily McFarland, drawing from the films Pollanroe Burn (2025) and Haugheys Bog (2025) - presented as part of a recent solo exhibition Pollanroe Burn at VOID, Derry (2025).
Unfolding through a series of new films and archival fragments, the work forms part of the artist's long-term research into the shifting ecology of the Sperrin Mountains of West Tyrone, in the North of Ireland, in the shadow of proposed industrial-scale gold extraction. Employing documentary forms, choreographed sequences, and sonic compositions, the works trace intersecting deep-time narratives and attend to hydrological and vegetal worlds as agents of collective folk memory, language and resistance - imagining relations beyond the anthropocentric frame.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Emily McFarland is an artist working predominantly in film. Embedded in documentary forms, her work considers how shared cultural, social, geological, and ecological narratives are constructed, narrated, and retold over time. Often working with techniques of slow looking and respectful listening, Emily’s recent work forms part of long-term research into the shifting terrain and ecology of the Sperrin Mountains in West Tyrone, in the North of Ireland, under the shadow of global capital’s extractive imperative - specifically industrial-scale gold mining.
