SUMMIT STAMMER (SLIEVE BEARNAGH) - ha ha - DAN SHIPSIDES

£390.00

TITLE
SUMMIT STAMMER (SLIEVE BEARNAGH) - ha ha. 2023

ARTIST
Dan Shipsides

ABOUT THE WORK
Playing with the unreliable unfurling of flags, Dan Shipsides explores the fragile contingency of language and the unknowable success of partial utterances. Drawing on his own experience of stammering, the work considers whether partially unfurled words might carry other, more magical and generative potentials. It also centres laughter and the spontaneous guttural voicing of joy and pain as part of the creative energy animating the human and non-human universe. ‘Ha ha’ is also Bosse-de-Nage’s pataphysical measure of time, space and creativity in Jarry’s seminal Dr. Faustroll.
In this image, the synchronicity of the two flags unfurling in the wind at the precise moment the camera shutter was released represents a syzygetic event—a moment of portent.
